Tools for Healing Trauma

TOOLS – WHAT IS A TOOL?

A tool is a practice, program, or action that a person can use to improve their physical, mental, emotional, nutritional, social, or spiritual well-being. They can help ANYONE (men, women, LGBTQ+, from young children to the elderly, no matter race, background, or ability) develop health and resilience.

Tools are crucial components that can enhance and widely broaden the scope of the healing process. Putting a tool into practice in conjunction with traditional medicine or therapy can be an eye-opening experience and make a world of difference in a person’s healing. It can help to build resilience, end self-doubt or self-destruction, giving a person the courage to deal with the hurt thus healing the core wound.

What types of tools are there?

Here are just a few examples of practices to explore:

  • Animal, Equine, or Pet Therapies
  • Bodywork (Somatic healing)
  • Creative/Intuitive Arts or Writing workshops
  • EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as “tapping” (helps take the intensity out of memories and emotions)
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • Energy Work (i.e. Reiki, Shamanism, Polarity Therapy)
  • Forest Therapy (Connecting with Nature)
  • Light Therapy and Sound Therapy
  • Mindfulness and Meditation
  • Neurofeedback and Biofeedback
  • TRE – Trauma Release Exercise
  • Thai Chi, Qi gong, Yoga

You may need more than one method to help address the physical, psychological, or nutritional barriers to your healing. Although some tools can have multiple beneficial effects, not everyone works for every person.

Take your time to research the many options that are available.  Start with modalities/tools or practices, that you are drawn to or seem to pique your interest.

This is where Haelan House can help you make a more informed decision, as you investigate the best course of action for you.

MANDALAS

Coloring a mandala is a tool and is used for reducing stress. A Mandala is a geometric configuration of symbols that are used to help people relax and quiet the mind from the busyness of the modern world. Mandalas can be used for reflection and relaxation.
